Berenberg Chief Economist Schmieding again No 1 for Europe
Hamburg/London. For the second time in a row, financial professionals have chosen Berenberg chief economist Holger Schmieding as the best financial market economist for Europe.
Another success for Berenberg’s macro research: In the annual Thomson Reuters Extel survey, Berenberg chief economist Dr Holger Schmieding maintained his position as the top-ranked analyst for Pan-European Economics & Macro. Berenberg’s other two European economists, Dr Christian Schulz and Rob Wood, also attained excellent scores with positions 10 and 18 out of 139 contenders. Rob Wood thus received one of the best scores of all economists with a UK focus. More than 16,000 fund managers and investors had cast their votes in the annual Thomson-Reuters Extel survey.
In the last few years, the Berenberg economists had made a name for themselves with the call for a „golden decade“ for the German economy and their analysis of adjustment progress in the Eurozone. They were also among the first to predict the strength of the UK economic recovery and to conclude that the Bank of England would have to raise rates earlier than the markets were expecting.
