Hamburg/London. Berenberg’s strong position in European equities has again been underlined by the Thomson Reuters Extel Survey. For the second year in a row Berenberg received praise for its research offering and, this year, its Chief Economist Dr Holger Schmieding was ranked number 1 in Europe. He took first place out of a total of 146 economists in Europe – ahead of Elga Bartsch from Morgan Stanley and Huw Pill from Goldman Sachs.
Berenberg was among the top 20 banks in Europe in all major segments – and is one of the very few market players to improve in all categories. Top positions were also gained in the Medical Technology (2nd), Tobacco (3rd) and Technology Hardware (4th) sectors. In European Equity Sales, Berenberg rose 18 places to 10th (2011: 28th) and holds a market share of 4.85%.
Commenting on the results, Hendrik Riehmer, Managing Partner at Berenberg, said:
“In the last few years, we’ve evolved from a boutique focusing on German small- and mid-caps into a broker with Europe-wide activities. We attract considerable attention in this market and this survey serves to underline to breadth and the quality of our offering.”
