To sit down together at the laid table and to spill everything that’s on your mind also means to feel a bit at home. Many children miss this in their families – some sometimes and some always. This is why they need a warm nest elsewhere: in facilities where they can find shelter for a few hours.

Stiftung Mittagskinder runs such facilities in deprived areas or facilitates their work with its subsidies. In these facilities, underprivileged children of pre-school and junior school age get free healthy meals and competent child care support until the evening.

Social disadvantages marginalise, barring people from education and social inclusion. Many children have to make this sad experience. This is why Stiftung Mittagskinder does not only offer help with the homework, but also additional educational impulses which may open the doors to a self-determined life: for instance, by offering access to books, music, theatre, sports and nature. Especially children from immigrant families are thus supported in their social integration. Stiftung Mittagskinder makes it possible for partner junior schools to run the “Class of 2000” prevention programme against violence and addiction.
