Berenberg appoints Dr Mickey Levy as Chief US and Asia Economist

New York. Berenberg, the fast growing privately owned German bank, is strengthening its US presence by hiring renowned economist Dr Mickey Levy. Dr Levy has over 30 years experience conducting economic and public policy research and advising major financial and government organizations in the US and globally, including 15 years as Chief Economist at Bank of America.

In addition to various corporate roles, Dr Levy advises several US Federal Reserve Banks, maintains close relations with executives at the European Commission and Bank of Japan, and is an occasional participant on the US Congressional Budget Offices Panel of Economic Advisors. Since 1983, he has been a member of the Shadow Open Market Committee, a prestigious independent research organization that critiques Federal Reserve and global central bank monetary and banking policies. Dr Levy has testified regularly before US Congressional committees on economic, policy and financial issues.

“Over the past 30 years, Dr Levy has established himself as a leading authority in economics. His appointment as our Chief Economist for the US, Americas and Asia will further strengthen our growing presence in the US as we continue our expansion after opening offices in New York, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco in the last 4 years,” commented Hendrik Riehmer, Managing Partner at Berenberg. Berenberg is one of the oldest banks in the world and celebrates its 425th anniversary this year.

Dr Levy has a PHD in Economics from the University of Maryland, a masters from the University of California Berkeley Graduate School of Public Policy and a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Prior to his career in finance, Dr Levy conducted research on monetary and fiscal policies at the US Congressional Budget Office and the American Enterprise Institute.

Dr Levy was Chief Economist at Bank of America from 1998-2013 and before then at its predecessor companies CRT Government Securities (1989-1994) and NationsBank (1994-1998). From 2013 until recently, he was Chief Economist at Blenheim Capital Management.

Dr Levy is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Economic Club of New York and the Center for Strategic Tax Reform. He is also on the Board of Governors of the Research Alliance for New York City Schools. He is a well known economic commentator and continues to publish research papers on a wide array of global macroeconomic issues and policies.
