Berenberg names new managing partners

David Mortlock (45) and Christian Kühn (52) have been appointed 39th and 40th managing partners in the 430 years history of the bank. Mortlock is the first non-German to become a managing partner of Berenberg since its founding in 1590 and will also take a 5% stake in the bank.

Berenberg achieves top marks in first UN PRI assessment

Frankfurt. Germany's oldest bank achieved top marks in its first annual assessment of the Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) supported by the United Nations.

 

In the main category ESG Strategy & Governance, Berenberg achieved the highest score of A+. In the other six categories, Berenberg received the second highest grade A. This means that the house, with its very first rating in six out of seven categories, was rated better than the median for all PRI signatories and the participating investment managers.

Hamburg/Frankfurt. When assessing a company’s sustainability in terms of ESG (environmental, social and governance standards), many asset managers rely heavily on scores by external rating agencies. However, a study by Berenberg’s ESG Office has shown that many of these ratings are inadequate and only partially reflect real-life circumstances. Hamburg. Berenberg arranges a EUR 70 million rolling stock institutional debt solution with the aim to fund new rolling stock vehicles for a German regional passenger rail (SPNV) franchise. A group of investors represented by Allianz Global Investors (AGI) is acting as long-term lender. The funds are used to purchase of 8 DMUs and 2 EMUs to be operated in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg and Berlin.

Hamburg. Berenberg closed the year 2019 with net profit for the year from operations of €60.5 million (previous year: €23.3 million). Germany’s oldest privately owned bank has thus surpassed the previous year’s earnings by 160%.

No suspicion: Investigations against Hendrik Riehmer dropped

Hamburg. The investigations initiated in March 2019 against Hendrik Riehmer, Managing Partner of Berenberg, were discontinued in accordance with Section 170 (2) of the German Code of Criminal Procedure on the grounds that the accusations were completely unfounded, as announced by the Hamburg public prosecutor's office on 11.02.2020. Riehmer had been wrongly suspected of having passed on insider information.

HWWI/Berenberg City Ranking: Berlin is the new leader – three cities in eastern Germany among the top ten

Hamburg/Frankfurt. The HWWI/Berenberg City Ranking has a new winner. Berlin leads the field of the 30 largest cities in Germany for the first time. That puts three East German cities into the Top 10, with Leipzig again coming second in overall ranking and Dresden climbing to seventh place. Donner & Reuschel acquires Berenberg’s business with external asset managers

Joint Press Release by Berenberg and Donner & Reuschel: Hamburg. The bank Donner & Reuschel acquires Berenberg’s business with external asset managers. Berenberg currently serves some 160 external asset managers with a business volume of around €8 billion. As communicated by the two Hamburg-based banks, the purchase agreement was signed today. The transfer of the business unit is still subject to approval, among others by the regulatory authorities, and is scheduled for early 2020. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Hamburg. Rating agency Scope has awarded Berenberg’s equity fund management an AA+ rating. This is the second-highest rating that Scope can give. The rating score is 3.57, just short of the 3.60 figure needed to obtain the highest rating (AAA). The rating thus attests to the excellent quality and competency of Germany’s oldest private bank in the management of discretionary equity strategies with a focus on Europe.

Hamburg. In cooperation with Universal-Investment, Berenberg has launched a new ESG fund. Managed by Bernd Deeken, this equities fund, Berenberg Sustainable World Equities, invests in global equities with a focus on sustainability.
