Christian Schumacher will allocate his working hours to Berenberg on a pro-rata basis starting immediately, while initially continuing his role as Managing Director at the Hamburg-based investment management company Hansainvest. During this transition phase, he will be employed by both companies. Christian Schumacher joins Berenberg's extended Management Board with immediate responsibility for the Back Office (risk and operations) division, reporting to Michael Horf, Special Commissioner with managing director powers.
After eleven years at Berenberg, Christian Schumacher had moved to Hansainvest in October 2025, initially as a General Representative and later as Managing Director. His employment there is expected to conclude fully in May 2027.
"We would like to thank everyone involved, particularly Hansainvest and its parent company Signal Iduna, for their willingness to let Dr Schumacher begin his role at such short notice," says Dr Hans-Walter Peters, Special Commissioner with managing director powers. "I am delighted that we have been able to win back an experienced professional like Christian Schumacher for Berenberg," adds Michael Horf.
Subject to approval by the various boards and the consent of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bafin), Christian Schumacher is expected to join Berenberg as a Managing Director around mid-2027.
"I look forward to being part of Berenberg again, where I spent over a decade of my career. Joining the management of Germany's oldest private bank means a great deal to me! I would like to thank the bank's partners for their trust, and I will dedicate myself to this new task with all my heart. My thanks also go to the Hansainvest Supervisory Board, chaired by Martin Berger, as well as the management team led by Dr Jörg Stotz, for their understanding and for making it possible for me to return to Berenberg at short notice," says Christian Schumacher.
Christian Schumacher (46) studied physics with a minor in law and joined Berenberg in 2014 after positions at BMW and the consulting firm d-fine. In October 2025, he moved to the Hamburg-based fund provider Hansainvest, where he currently serves as Managing Director. Born in Westphalia, he lives in Hamburg, is married, and has two children.
