Döhle Group Becomes Shareholder in Berenberg

Reading time: 3 MIN

The Hamburg-based Döhle Group is becoming a shareholder in the Hamburg private bank Joh. Berenberg, Gossler & Co. KG. The von Berenberg family is acquiring additional shares, meaning that Hendrik Riehmer will no longer hold any equity interest in the bank.

The Döhle Group is acquiring Hendrik Riehmer’s existing interest in PetRie Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH and will, on a look-through basis, hold a 9.98% interest in Joh. Berenberg, Gossler & Co. KG (Berenberg) going forward.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The investment is purely financial; the Döhle Group will have no access to the bank’s client business.

“The Döhle Group is a Hanseatic shipping and trading house in the very best sense of the word. The shareholders are delighted to welcome such a partner into their circle,” says Dr. Hans-Walter Peters, shareholder of Berenberg and Managing Director of PetRie Beteiligungsgesellschaft.

Hendrik Riehmer’s remaining shares, amounting to just under one percent, have been acquired by the von Berenberg family. As a result, Hendrik Riehmer no longer holds any equity interest in the bank.

The shareholdings in Berenberg are therefore distributed as follows:

  • von Berenberg family: 31.86%
  • PetRie Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH and Dr. Hans-Walter Peters: 21.41%
  • Christian Fürst zu Fürstenberg: 14.25%
  • Prof. Dr. Jan Philipp Reemtsma: 14.25%
  • Compagnie du Bois Sauvage S.A.: 11.40%
  • David Mortlock, Christian Kühn and former personally liable partners (phG): 6.83%
